Meet Carla Salmon
Carla Salmon is a Highly Accomplished Lead Teacher (HALT) at Brisbane Grammar School who loves telling stories. She’s the author of young teen mysteries We Saw What You Started and We Did It Anyway, both set in the exciting world of surf lifesaving. These stories for readers aged 11-15 are inspired by Carla’s country coastal childhood, where sports ruled and beach campsites were paradise. Much like the students in her classroom today, her characters lead action-packed lives with plenty of heart and humour.
For more than a decade, Carla has taught English, Drama and History, working closely with young teens to create bravely, think critically and unlock the joy of storytelling. She thrives on helping eager (and many not so eager) students recognise the power of their individual voice, with inclusive teaching strategies delivered through her author’s lens.
Prior to teaching, Carla managed public relations campaigns in London before returning to Australia to lead international marketing strategies for Bond University.
Now, she loves combining her experience in communication and education industries as an author, driven to share her passion for great story telling with young readers and writers. Carla is available for writing workshops for students, teachers and parents. She also loves chatting about her work as a panellist or presenting to larger groups with presentations catering for specific client needs.
When Carla’s not at school talking books with teachers and librarians or at home writing, she loves following her husband and two teenage children on sun seeking adventures.
